Plastic?

There will be a rain dance Friday night, weather permitting.
~ George Carlin

Here in the Scandahoovian Hinterlands, the weather will either permit a rain dance or a snow dance tonight. We're breaking out the winter jackets today, and likely won't be putting them away until late April.

I'm not sure what's on my agenda for the weekend, but I'll find something...I've got a few books to read and I feel like baking. I should also start playing with the chocolate "plastic" I am planning on using to make penguins for Christmas. I figure if I start playing with it now, the penguins might actually look like penguins by the end of December.

Yeah, I think that's what I'll do. Make penguins. Now to find the recipe and buy the ingredients to make the "plastic".

Until later...

Friday Snow...

This morning dawned early, as all mornings do. And I really shouldn't say "dawned" because I'm at my desk furiously working (okay...I'm really slacking today) by the time the sun creeps beyond the Hinterland horizon in the winter.

I got the monsters out of bed, ready and out the door. As we pulled out of the garage, I noticed that a light dusting of snow was falling.

As is our routine, Bugaboo and I stopped for coffee and hot chocolate before heading off to the school to drop him at Before Care. We couldn't have been in the store for more than five minutes, but when I came out, the car was covered in the snow. It was no longer a light dusting.

I'm not sure how long the snow is supposed to last, but I'm actually quite happy about it. That first few hours after the snow stops, everything is so pretty and fresh. After a while, it turns grey and dingy from the melting and the spray from the roads.

If the snow keeps up throughout the day, it'll be nice and quiet tonight as I laze in my comfy clothes reading my book. There's something special about the quiet as snow falls on a Hinterland winter evening.

I've got no real plans this weekend, so the quiet and the coziness of a Friday evening is looking pretty good to me right now.

Remind Me Again Why I Live In The Hinterlands???

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 6 AM TO 6 PM CST TUESDAY
UNTIL 11:00PM CST
Urgent - Winter Weather Message

A strong arctic cold front will plow into the Western Hinterlands late this evening reaching the Eastern Hinterlands Tuesday morning. Northwest winds behind this front will gust to 30 to 40 mph as very cold air blasts across the area. Behind the front temperatures will fall quickly and a period of snow is likely. Snow amounts should be generally an inch or less across western and central Hinterlands but could reach 2 or 3 inches further south. Any newly fallen snow will be susceptible blowing with significant visibility reductions possible. Wind chills will reach 30 below in the western Hinterlands by Tuesday morning with 20 to 25 below zero wind chills in the eastern Hinterlands by evening. Even colder wind chills lie ahead for Tuesday night.

Sigh...
